how are clay roof tiles made

My husband refuses to have anything but a clay tile roof. He absolutely loves this style of roofing and I don't mind. Now he wants to tackle the backyard shed project, and he wants to make clay roof tiles himself. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I want him to be successful and not stressed out with this project.

Clay tiles are great for roofs as they last forever. I can see why your husband likes them so much. They aren't that easy to make though, and I think this process is best left up to the professionals. Maybe he can chat to a roofing company and see what they have to say, and if they have any ideas or resources for him.

There's more than 100,000 tile setters according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and these professionals know a whole lot about clay tiles. This includes roof tiles. These tiles are made by mixing natural material from the earth and heating them up to form the solid tile. I'm a big fan of clay roof tiles and I think they are a smart investment.

I work in admin for a roofing company, and I know that the process of making clay tiles is more tedious then it may seem. Your husband will need to source the materials and also get access to a kiln or something similar. If he can do that then maybe he can make this happen, otherwise he can easily buy the clay tiles and then keep working on the project!

We've had clay roof tiles on our home for the past 20 years with no problems. I think you can make these tiles by getting the clay and then firing it up in a kiln. This sounds kind of tricky though, so maybe it's best that your husband goes to a tile shop or hardware store to learn more about some of the options in your area.
