how to construct a timber pitched roof

We recently bought a tear-down junk house and now we're discussing plans to build on that property. One of the things that I've always wanted in a house is a timber pitched roof. I just love the way they look. That being said I don't have the first clue how to make one. Has anyone worked on a timber pitched roof who can fill me in and help me get started?

Have you made any measurements yet? I would say you need to double or even triple check your measurements. Maybe someone else, wehther it be a family member or a handyman, can help you with this. If your measurements are accurate then you can expect your pitched roof to look quite nice at the end of the day.

I've been married to a roofing contractor for 50+ years. There's more than 700,000 Americans who work in residential building, including roofing, as you can see from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That means there's no shortage of qualified builders who can help you reach your desired roof. You can learn alongside them, but if you're not coming into this project with any previous knowledge of roofing then you should leave this one to the professionals.

I started with the gable and the rafters when I was making our roof, and I think this is a good idea for you too. Make sure you also bring your measuring tape so that you can make accurate measurements. There's nothing worse than having to redo a project because you messed up on something that could have been simple.

I hate to burst your bubble because you do seem really excited about this project, which is great. However you need to understand that making a timber pitched roof isn't easy if you don't have any experiencing with roofing. That's why I'd suggest you hire a local roofer to give you a hand. You get the design you're looking for and more technical knowledge on how to do it for your next property. I'd say that's a pretty sweet deal.
