  5. How to paint concrete roof tiles

I'd like to paint the concrete roof tiles we've got. They've just gotten old and stained with bird poo and the likes! Can anyone give a bit of expert knowledge on doing this?

You need about three coats to really make it clean and also to stand up to bad weather. Don't do it in bad weather, or even in the cold cos it will just take longer to dry. I put on some primer first, then I sprayed it on, which is much easier and less physical. Then I put on a shield over that. My roof was painted more than four years ago, and it looks practically good as the day after I'd done it.

I'd get a specialist to do it. You will spend money on the equipment, the paint, primer etc and you won't have the right safety equipment that they have. It's not worth the few bucks that you'll save, man. Your life is more important than money. Plus roofing people will do the job right and it will last longer.

This is certainly a job you can do yourself, don't give into any shady roofing company who says you can't. First, you've got to get anything off the roof, you can get some good mouldshield to do this. Then I'd give it a good go with a power hose. I'd put on some primer too. Then paint it on a sunny day when you are absolutely sure that it won't rain.

Here you go - a guide that shows you what to do in only four steps. Painting the tiles is quite easy, and you can probably get it done in a day. description I'm making an assumption that your house is an average size there. Definitely put some primer on, otherwise your efforts could go to waste.

Powerwash the roof first, get some roof chemicals in your local DIY store and make a mixture to get rid of any stubborn stains. Then, get some Rockcote primer and apply that. This will make sure that the paint bonds to it and lasts longer. TOA have some good quality paints for concrete tiles, but any top name in the market will have something you can use. A roller is best to apply it.
